Design Story

The surface is organised in three horizontal registers. At the base, an orange and cream checkerboard band wraps fully around the form, its grid tightening as the silhouette curves away from the viewer. Above it, a wide field of warm off-white opens into deliberate negative space — the calmest area of the whole design. The focal panel sits at eye level: a raised block letter T, then a descending hierarchy of spaced capitals reading TENNESSEE, then VOLUNTEERS, then a fine ruled line of small lettering. Scale does the work here; nothing shouts. The checkerboard reappears along the handle, a small rhyme that ties the outer edge back to the base.

The patterned base grounds the form, the pale midsection lets the wordmark breathe, and the handle band carries the motif around the profile.
